UNIT 1.
LETTERS OF ALPHABETS
_Let's Understand_ :-
A letter is a symbol used for writing a certain sound.
★ The alphabet:
The set of 26 letters used to write English is called the alphabet. English letters written in the larger form are capital letters while the letters written in the smaller form are small letters.
SUBUNIT 1.1:
★ Associating the name of a letter with its sound.
_Let's Understand :-_
In English, letters have different sounds. For example, In word 'good' sound of 'g' and that of in 'ginger is different. So students should learn first proper sound of each letter.

★Formation of words using given alphabets.
_Let's Understand :-_
Using the given alphabets, we should make meaningful word. The newly framed word should be meaningful. The word should fulfill the given conditions Sometimes. the incomplete word is given with missing letters. The students should fill the letters so that the newly formed word should be meaningful.

_Let's Understand :-_
It gives students chance to apply vocabulary formally and informally. The aim of this unit is to encourage enrichment of vocabulary. They will learn to deduce meaning from the context. It will make learning interesting.
SUBUNIT 2.1:
★Writing familiar related words with the given clues /pictures.
_Let's Understand :-_ Students should write familiar words with the given clues. Students should know the words from their textbooks for std. 1st to 5th Students should learm thoroughly the textbooks. They should know maximum words related to their syllabus.
SUBUNIT 2.2:
★Corelating words with pictures.
_Let's Understand :-_ ★(action words, describing words) It is a play way method of learning the action words and describing words with the help of pictures. It helps to increase vocabulary.
SUBUNIT 2.3:
★Rhyming words
_Let's Understand :-_
The words that rhyme with each other are called rhyming words. Students should learn the rhyming words. They should read more and more. So that they can use them in their daily life.
For example, wake - make, cut -but, hit - sit, can man, call - ball etc.
SUBUNIT 2.4:
★Writing opposite words
_Let's Understand :-_
The words indicating opposite characters are opposite words. Opposite words are useful to enrich students vocabulary. Students should learn their text books from 1st to 5th std.
For e.g.
close x open,
fast x slow,
cold x hot.
SUBUNIT 2.5:
★Writing word register
_Let's Understand :-_
The range of vocabulary, grammar used by speakers in particular social circumstances and contexts.
For e.g.
(1) Hospital -doctor, patient, nurse, medicines, injection, health.
(2) School -teachers, students, peons, library, books, exams
SUBUNIT 2.6:
★Finding small words from the bigger ones
_Let's Understand:-_
This activity is useful for enrichment of students' vocabulary. A word having more number of words is given to the students. Students will be able to make small words using these letters from the given bigger word.
For e.g.
(1) gold - old,
(2) sparrow arrow
SUBUNIT 2.7:
★Using/ writing contracted forms
_Let's Understand :-_
To contract means to make smaller or tighter. Some words can be written in contracted forms. Two words can be combined in one word. For example : did not didn't, are not - aren't When we write the contracted form some alphabets are eliminated.
SUBUNIT 2.8
★Dictionary skills
_Let's Understand :-_
Acquiring dictionary skill will help the students to find out the word as fast as they can.
SUBUNIT 2.9:
★Parts of body
_Let's Understand :-_
This activity develops the ability of naming body parts and their uses.
For example: eye, ear, tongue, nose, head, hand
SUBUNIT 2.10:
★Names of birds and animals, their living places and their sounds
_Let's Understand :-_
In nature, we can see different types of birds, animals. Everyone has different features. Their living places and sounds are different.
For example
Living places
(1) horse - stable
(2) pig- sty
Sounds
(1) bee -hums
(2) duck - quacks
SUBUNIT 2.11:
★Comparisons
_Let's Understand :-_
To compare the characteristics of a thing or a person with another thing. For example : as red as blood. Blood is red. So it is said 'as red as blood'. Coal is black. So it is said 'as black as coal'.
SUBUNIT 2.12:
★Homophones
_Let's Understand :-_
A word pronounced like another word or sounds like another word with a different meaning and spelling.
For example :
(1) floor- flour,
(2) weak - week
SUBUNIT 2.13 :
★Name of colours things, shapes, vegetables, fruits, games.
_Let's Understand :-_
Colour attracts children. They can express their feelings, emotions by colours Students will increase their curiosity by observation.
For example:
(1) colours-red, green
(2) shapes circle, triangle
(3) vegetables- onion, brinjal
(4) games - khokho, hide and seek.
