Story of the day

The shopkeeper outwitted
Once upon a time, there was a shopkeeper. He used to sell statues made of wood and clay. People from far and wide would come to his shop to buy the beautiful statues. But of late, the shopkeeper was not able to make profit since people were several other metal products in the market that looked more attractive.
“These days, people are going for the statues made of metal. No one likes to buy my statues,” the shopkeeper thought one day. So, he decided to attract the customers by making fake claims about his statues.
The next day in the market, the shopkeeper began to call out, “Come, come, come; come to my stall! Here are statues; lucky and chimed! Some for wealth; some for health! Buy any one; come one , come all!”
A man heard the shopkeeper’s slogan and came to his shop. “Is it true that these statues give health and wealth?” asked the man. “Oh, absolutely true!” replied the shopkeeper.
“Then what a fool you are to sell them?” said the man with a witty smile on his face. “Keeo these statues with you and get health and wealth.” The shopkeeper was outwitted. He could only remain quiet.

Story of the day

The horse in trouble

Long ago, there lived a horse. One afternoon, he was pulling a cart loaded with goods. “My master has ordered me to reach the goods safely to the market,” thought the horse, “So, I must not pause even for a while until I reach the market.”
He galloped fast. On the way, there happened to be a small patch of swamp, which the horse was not aware of. Suddenly, the wheels of the cart got stuck in the swamp. The horse became worried. “It’s going to be dark now. Soon, the wild beasts will be out for huntring!” he thought. Meanwhile, the wheels were sinking deeper and deeper.
The horse began to cry for help. “Is there someone around? Please help me!” he called out. But there was no response. “Can anyone hear me?” he cried out again, “I am in danger. Please help me!”
Suddenly, there was a flash of light, and the forest golddess appeared before the horse. “You are strong enough to help yourself. Be confident and pull out the Cart!”
Hearing this, the horse began to pull with all his might. The forest goddess gave a little push and in no time the Cart was out of the swamp. The horse thanked the goddess and galloped away happily.

The sparrow and the pearl
Once, there was a sparrow. She was found of eating glowworm. One day, she found something shining on the ground. It looked round and white and glittered in the sun. “Ah, that must be another variety of glowworm,” thought the sparrow. So, she hastily picked it up in her beak. But the very next moment, the sparrow spitted it out, squeaking, “Oh! It’s too hard to chew!”
A crow perched nearby said, “O foolish sprrow! It’s not a glowworm. It’s pearl, a precious gem!” At this, the sparrow said, “Precious? Hut! It may be precious, but to me it’s nothing more than a waste, for it can’t even satisfy my hunger.” And so saying, the sparrow flew away from there.

The Donkey and the lion

Once upon a time, there lived a donkey in a forest. One day while he was roaming idly, he saw a cock perched upon a tree. The donkey stopped under the tree and began to talk to the cock. Suddenly, there came a lion searching for food. “Hmm! Good prey there!” thought the lion, looking at the donkey and the cock. He prepared to attack them.
Now the donkey was terribly frightened to see the lion. “I can neither escape nor fight against the lion,” thought the donkey. But the cock sat calmly. He was aware of the fact that the lions have an aversion to the crowing of a cock. “Let the wicked lion come near,” thought the cock And just as the lion was about to charge at them, the cock began to crow as loudly as he could. Hearing the shrill crow, the lion stopped at once.
The cock continued to crow in his harsh voice. The lion turned around and began to run away as fast as he could. The donkey was delighted to see the courage of the cock. He, too, was inspired to show some courage. So, he ran after the lion, as if to chase him.
And then! Hardly had the donkey taken four steps when suddenly the lion turned around and caught him by his neck. “Help! Help!” cried the foolish donkey. But nothing could be done. “That’s the punishment for your false confidence,” laughed the lion, as he carried away the donkey deep inside the forest.

The Hawk And The Hen

long ago, there lived a hen in the hollow of a tree. One day,the hen delivered some eggs. she carefully warmed her eggs and waited for her little ones to hatch.Upon the same tree, there lived a hawk.He was alwase in search of an opportunity to feast upon the hen’s eggs.
One day, the hen had gone out for some work, and her eggs were along at home.”Hahaha,That’s a good opportunity” giggled the hawk. he swooped down and took away the hen’s eggs.
When the hen returned,she couldn’t find hre eggs.She began to search for them all around.suddenly, she looked up and saw the hawk eating up her eggs.”NO,My little ones” the hen cride bitterly. But she couldn’t do anything.
some days passed. one day, some travelers came to rest under the tree.They kindled fire and roasted some fish.The hawk saw all this from above the tree. His mouth started watering at the sight of roasted fish.He flew down and perched near the fire.
As he was about to pick up a fish,one of the travelers saw him and snapped at him with a spatula. And even before the hawk could realised,he fell into the fire and was turned to ashes. thus the wicked creature was rightly punished for his evil deed.

The Unwanted Guest
Long ago, there lived a rich man. He had a pet cat whom he loved very much. One day, there was a celebration at the rich man’s mansion. He had invited all his friends and relatives to a great feast in the evening. The cooks were busy preparing the dishes and delicacies.
“You also can enjoy in the party, my dear” said the rich man, gently patting his cat. The cat was glad. She eagerly began to wait for the evening.
Now it so happened that the cat had a friend who lived opposite the rich man’s mansion. The street cat was very greedy. When she came to know about the feast at the rich man’s house, she thought,” Ah, Imust go to meet my friend.”
And so, the street cat ran into the rich man’s manion in the evening. She hugged the cat friend and jumped upon the huge dining table. Then the greedy street cat began to sniff at the dishes.
Suddenly, one of the cooks saw the greedy cat. “Ey, what are you doing here?” he called out. “Umm! Enjoying the feast!” said the street cat, licking her lips. “ Enjoying the feast? Did anyone invite you?” yelled the cook. He caught the greedy cat and threw her out of the door. The pet cat could only feel sorry for her greedy friend.
