The Play
A group of actors, rehearsing a play, are interrupted by arrival of ‘six characters of a play’, who are a family. The father in the family informs that they are looking for an author since the author who created them did not complete the play, and therefore they have not been fully brought to life. The director at first tries to throw them out but becomes involved when they start to describe their story. He asks them to play the scenes, which will be written down into a rough script. The happenings that follow bring out strained relationships between the characters. Things become murkier and within the story, a drowning and a suicide take place. Intrigued and traumatized, the entire group of actors runs out of the auditorium.
Director's Note
What has attracted me in this play is its unique structure. As the play discusses reality and realism, it also discusses composition and execution of drama, arts, truth, untruth, and life in general. Through the fictitious lives of the characters the play strives to find truths in a person’s life and in the society. My approach is emotional and the scenes are executed to bring out agony of the characters to the fullest. The play is totally engaging, never lets the audience breathe easy. Very powerful scenes keep unfolding one after the other like a roaring waterfall. It is a challenge to act-in and execute such an emotional avalanche for the entire length of the play.
